Mongolia, a landlocked country located in northern China, is a remote and very sparsely populated country, with an economy based mainly on agriculture, which is becoming increasingly industrialized. In Ulan Bator, tourists can visit many Buddhist monasteries and the statue of Gingis Han. Many of these religious centers were destroyed during the communist regime. The Gandan Monastery is one of the few which survived, and it is called by the locals “the place of the eternal joy”. Karakorum is another main tourist attraction. In the thirteen century, it was the capital of the Mongol Empire, established by the great Gingis Han. Nowadays, the ruins of the old capital are one of the most known tourist sites.
